web cameraYou can have a blast traveling the world through real-time web cams stationed at many famous, popular and interesting locations around the globe. Watch a live volcano in Mexico city, see Old Faithful Geyser erupt, go on a live safari in Africa, watch zoo animals such as the panda exhibit at San Diego Zoo, the possibilities are endless. Web cams can be placed anywhere and can give the viewer a sense of what it would be like to be there in person. Technology such as it is, can be problematic at times, web cams go down, the feed is interrupted, and weather can be a factor, so if you are going to be an avid webcam watcher you have to be patient at times, but it is always worth the wait.

Activity at the South Pole
The National Science Foundation (NSF) operates the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. The webcam is mounted on the Atmospheric Research Observatory (ARO) and focuses on different areas to allow viewing of activity and what the site calls “geophysical rarities at the South Pole.”

The Popocatepetl Volcano in Mexico City
This image, updated every minute, shows the North flank of the volcano including the glacier. Intense cloudy or transmission problems can sometimes prevent the visibility of the volcano. Popocatepetl is located 43 miles southeast of Mexico City. It is an active volcano and Mexico’s second highest peak.

San Diego Zoo Panda Cam
Live webcam shows San Diego Zoo pandas Su Lin, Zhen Zhen, Goa Gao and Bai Yun and her baby, Yun Zi, as they go about their daily living activities. Check out the camera number in the lower left area of the webcam. The number shows the part of the Panda exhibit you are viewing: 1–3: Su Lin; 4–7: Zhen Zhen; 11: Bai Yun’s bedroom; 13, 21, and 25: Birthing den; 15: Bai Yun’s garden room; 17: Bai Yun’s sun room; 23, 24, 31: Gao Gao; 27–29: Classroom exhibit. St. George’s, Bermuda
The webcam points north towards St. George’s. This town is located on a Bermuda island and is the first permanent settlement on the island. St. George’s is the oldest continuously inhabited English town of the New World. It was first settled in 1612. This weather cam is maintained by the Bermuda Weather Service office. It uses a wide angle lens to allow more view of the sky. It updates every two minutes. Tokyo Tower
See views of the tower on this webcam provided by NTT Learning Systems Corp. The tower is the largest man-built structure in Japan, it reaches 1091 feet. It is primarily a communications and observation tower. It was built in 1958; it is a huge tourist attraction for the Tokyo area. The digital era has brought problems, as the tower isn’t high enough to support complete digital broadcasting, so a taller tower is being built and will be completed in 2011, known as the Tokyo Sky Tree.

Oxford Circus in London
BBC brings this webcam to you of Oxford Street/Regent Street around the Oxford Circus area of London. You must continually refresh your browser for more live shots of the area. The area was built in the early 19th century and remains a busy area for commerce.

Live from Convent Gardens
This webcam is brought to you by Virtual-London.com and offers a view of Convent Gardens in London just outside Porter English Restaurant. Convent Gardens is known for its street performers, shops, theatres and the Royal Opera House. The webcam refreshes every 10 seconds.

Nesting Bald Eagles In Maine
The live eagle cam sits 70’ up a pine tree on the Maine coast. It provides live video of a pair of bald eagles. The pair has been nesting at this same spot for 13 years and have raised 20 little ones together. The webcam is up 24 hours a day and is brought to viewers by Biodiversity Research Institute.

Eiffel Tower

The Champs Elysees
See a 24 hour view of the street looking towards the horizon. Champs Elysees is known as the most expensive street in Europe. It is one of the most famous streets in the world with its luxury stores, cafes and cinemas. The avenue runs for 1.25 miles in northwestern Paris. Waikiki Beach
This webcam is located at the front of the statue of Duke Kahanamoku with a lovely view of Waikiki Beach, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Waikiki is famous for its views of Diamond Head tuff cone, the weather is usually pleasant, warm and cloud –free. The camera times out after 5 minutes so you need to refresh your browser to get the live view again.

Manhattan NYC
View Times Square NYC 24/7 via this great webcam. Take in the hustle and bustle of this busy district known for Broadway and its many animated, neon and television signage. Times Square is the only area of New York City that is zoned to require tenants to display bright signage. This webcam is brought to you by Earth Cam.

Old Faithful Geyser
Keep an eye on the famous Old Faithful Geyser in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming with this National Parks Service webcam. Geyser eruptions can shoot upwards 8400 gallons of boiling water at a height of 106 to 185 feet lasting from 1.5 to 5 minutes. The eruptions normally occur every 90 minutes but can occasionally occur at shorter or longer intervals. The webcam records a real-time still image which automatically updates. It also gives a prediction of the next eruption at the upper left corner of the picture.

San Francisco
See live views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Fran Central Fwy, Ocean Beach, South San Francisco, and more. San Francisco is the 12th most populated city in the U.S. with an estimated population of over 800,000. It covers a land mass area of almost 47 miles. It was established in 1776 as a fort in the Golden Gate area. Today it is a popular tourism mecca, famous for its Victorian and modern architecture, the Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown and its cable car system. These web cams are provided by CBS5 and run 24/7.

National Zoological Park
This system of web camsss features many of the zoos animals including the otter, cheetah, leopards, ferrets, fishing cats, flamingo, gharial, tamarin, gorilla, kiwi, naked mole-rat, octopus, orangutan, panda, slothbear and tiger cams. The Smithsonian National Zoo is home to 400 different species and over 2000 animals. If you can’t see the animals they may have moved out of view and are somewhere hidden in their enclosure. Wait a little bit and they will reappear.

Africa Live
Take a live safari on one of the Africams, you can go to Nkorho Pan, Tembe Elephant Park, Elephant Plains or Flamingo Island. You can contribute to the Recent Sightings listings when you see an animal, just tell what its doing and where you viewed it. There is a section that gives all the facts on each webcam and what can be viewed on it. Equadorian Cloud Forest
Located in the remote Buenaventura Reserve, Ecuador, this webcam looks out on the feeders that have been strategically placed to allow viewing of the amazing birds that come to take advantage of the welcome treats. The reserve is home to many threatened species of birds, including the El Oro Parakeet. If the area experiences power loss, the webcam will go offline. When this happens cam viewers will see live streaming from another camera in the Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest.

Under Water Coral Reef
This webcam has an underwater view of a coral reef, 15 meters down and south of the mooring line at the “Something Special” dive site in Bonaire National Marine Park (BNMP), Netherlands Antilles. The BNMP was established to manage and protect the island’s cultural, natural and historical assets. The Parks ecosystems include fringing reefs, sea grass beds, beach areas, mangroves, lagoons, karstic systems and bacterial mats.

Space Needle
Built for the Seattle World’s Fair in 1962, the space needle in downtown Seattle is 605 feet tall. The observation deck where the webcam is located is 520 feet above ground. The webcam can be controlled to get views to the north, east, south and west.

Hoover Dam Bypass Construction
This webcam allows visitors to watch as construction progresses on the Colorado River Bridge and the Hoover Dam Bypass project that when completed will allow traffic to bypass U.S. Hwy 93 that now takes travelers across Hoover Dam. The bridge is 2,000 feet long with a central concrete arch running 1,060 feet across, and almost 900 feet above the river. The project that connects Nevada and Arizona started in 2005 and is on schedule to be completed in 2010.

Squaw Valley High Camp
Squaw Valley, California, in the Sierras, was home to the 1960 Olympics VIII Winter Games. High Camp is 2,000 vertical feet up by the Cable Car. This Squaw Ubercam captures views of Lake Tahoe, Squaw Peak, the ski areas and the Lagoon at High Camp.

London 2012 Olympic Prep

Surfers Paradise Beach
Check out the action live from the beautiful Surfers Paradise Beach in Australia. With this cam you can control where you want to look at the beach or the surf. The webcam is brought to you by Surfers Paradise. The Beach is on Australia’s Gold Coast in Queensland. It has a small population of less than 19,000, but is a popular tourist spot especially for surfers as it has a wide surf beach.

Monterey Bay Aquarium
With quite a few marine life cams to choose from, it is hard to pick between the kelp, underwater, sea otter, aviary, penguin, outer bay and Monterey Bay cams. The web cams run live from 7a.m. to 7p.m. PST. The cams show the daily activities of the areas and it inhabitants. The Aquarium is located in Monterey, California and has been a popular tourist spot for marine life lovers for years.

Elvis’ Graceland
With the GracelandCam you can check out what’s happening outside the home of the famous rock’n roller Elvis. The live web cams update every 60 seconds so you might want to use your refresh button to see the latest view. Graceland is a memorial to Elvis and provides an up close and personal look at his beginnings and rise to fame through memorabilia, video, costumes and his possessions.

Beijing China
This webcam is brought to you by earth TV and is located at Pine Valley Resort and gives distant views of the Great Wall of China and the Yan Mountains. The sights of Beijing include the Forbidden City, the Palace Museum Tiananmen and the Temple of Heaven. Beijing is known as one of four Great Ancient Capitals of China. It is China’s second largest city; the population is well over 17 million. It has been described as “one of the world’s greatest cities.” Most major buildings have historical significance as Beijing has been found to be inhabited as early as 250,000 years ago and has history dating back to AD 755. The city was officially named Beijing in 1403 by the Yongle Emperor.

Nessie at Lochness
Mikko Takala, Loch Ness Monster researcher, brings these webcams to you. Watch to see if you can catch a glimpse of the Loch Ness monster, Nessie, in this beautiful Scottish loch. There is also an underwater cam coming soon. Loch Ness reaches a depth of over 750 feet and is known for its pitch black waters. Over many years the legend of Nessie has been researched by hundreds of experts and has neither been proven nor debunked. So the legend lives on.

Shamu Cam
Located at Sea Worldd in San Diego, California this webcam features the Orca killer whale pool. Watch the whales as the play, swim and feed. The webcam runs between 9am and 5:30Pm PST and at then at midnight switches to the footage from the previous day. Shamu is the name of Sea World’ss Orca killer whale show which can be viewed at any of the Sea World parks.

Forks, Washington
See live cams of Forks Beach, Sol Duc River, and Confluence of the Sol Duc and Bogachiel. Forks, a small unassuming town on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State, was pushed out of obscurity with the release of the famous Twilight books and movie series. The books were set in Forks and the movies were filmed here.  Keep up with your favorite vampire hot spots with these three web cams.
