When referring to the face, the word symmetry refers to the property of one half of an object being exactly the same as the other half if a line is put down the center vertically. Objects that don’t have this property are referred to asymmetrical. Interestingly, although most people may think otherwise, the human face is not symmetrical. Some faces are actually more symmetrical than others, but for the most part, the sides of your face do not match up perfectly with each other! In human biology, symmetry of the face is highly important. It makes sense that the more symmetrical a face is, the more “attractive” the person appears to others on the base level that it’s an indication of good genes and good breeding!

If you want to see for yourself just how symmetrical your face is, you’ll need a few things. First of all, you need a good digital camera. You’ll also need a computer as well as some graphics programs like Paint Shop Pro, Adobe Photoshop, or CorelDraw.

To begin, take three pictures of yourself looking straight at the camera. You really need to be looking right at it for the experiment to work. Then, upload the photos to a computer and open up your graphics program. In Paint Shop, use the selection tool to outline exactly half of the photo. To do this correctly, you absolutely have to locate the exact center. Then, flick the “mirror” button! This should mirror the half of your face that you had selected. Then, drag this section over to the other side so that it is covering the half of your face that you didn’t select.

Line up the mirrored image exactly at the center. The finished photo will show you exactly how symmetrical your face is. Repeat this exact same process on the other side of your face. Extra care must be taken to always make sure that you’re going exactly down the center of the face.

Now, compare the three photos: the one with the left side of your face, the right side of your face, and the one with your face as normal. What do they look like? In some cases, the pictures will look drastically different, and in other cases, you won’t be able to tell much of a difference at all! What did your experiment reveal about your face? If you find that your face is not totally symmetrical, don’t despair. There are not so many people that have perfectly symmetrical faces.

Doing an experiment to see how symmetrical your face is can yield very interesting results, most likely revealing some things you never suspected previously!

Working as a young city police officer in the 80s, I saw a need for not only an increase in video surveillance, but an increase in the quality of that surveillance. Too many crimes were going unsolved because of a lack of an eyewitness, and too many criminals walked free because the victim, either homeowner or storeowner, had not protected himself with 24 hour surveillance. I decided to become a private security consultant specializing in video surveillance. I quickly found that there was a need for these services, and decided that if I really wanted to protect and serve, I could do it by helping people prevent crime from happening, rather than being there to solve a crime someone had already committed.

As time passes and surveillance equipment becomes more affordable, it is my mission to show Americans through the products my site offers how easy and affordable it is to protect their properties and families with video surveillance.

Outside of this mission, I enjoy collecting and using firearms while either shooting target practice or hunting. I also love to travel with my family around the United States, with our favorite city being Washington DC. My grandchildren take up much of my free time and I wouldn't have it any other way.
