In the world of surveillance, security camera systems are extremely important when it comes to protecting your valuable possessions from damage or theft. Bullet cameras are one of many different camera systems available to purchase, and are usually highly adaptive within most locations to ensure high monitoring is executed each and every time. But what is a bullet security camera?
A bullet security camera is a smaller type of camera system that is generally used for outdoor installations and applications. Because of their smaller design they are more suited to be used for low profile surveillance monitoring than other types of cameras including the dome or the fixed boxed security camera, and can be used in undercover applications where suspicious activity around the home or office may need to be recorded. Also known as lipstick cameras because of their shape and size, bullet cameras are usually limited to a 2 to 2.5” fixed focal length which may enable a limited viewing angle when installed.
Nowadays bullet security camera models are generally integrated with infrared properties. Most distributers usually sell these types of camera systems when a customer is looking for a camera that offers night vision properties. With some models of bullet cameras featuring a 20ft transmitting image range in complete darkness, they are suitable for use as a first line of defence when it comes to low light and night time intruders around your business or your home.
Bullet cameras are also available for underwater applications where the camera may need to be submerged in 100ft of deep water. Because of the versatility of the design they are able to provide high use when it comes to diving, and for use where swimming pools or marine type areas exist. With the integration of special technology, some security camera systems of this type are able to offer the properties of transmitting signals in water making then suitable for long term operating in wet and underwater environments.
A bullet security camera usually features 2 connection points that are generally situated at the back of the device that are used for video and power. Most of the time the first connection is usually the power plug that helps to connect the power to ensure full operation. These types of cameras generally feature a 12VDC/24VAC power source which may also be classed as dual voltage. Most of these types of cameras are easy to install because of their plug and play design. The second connection point is used for video connection. This connection point allows for a bridge to be formed between the camera and a digital video recorder to help capture streaming video. This connection is usually connected via a coaxial cable that features BNC connectors on each end.
Because of the nature and design of bullet security cameras, there are a range of different manufacturers that are producing their line of cameras systems that can cater for a range of applications including commercial businesses, government facilities, and residential locations. They are generally easy to install into most locations, and can produce clear imagery that allows for constant monitoring in low light and dark environments.
When choosing to purchase a bullet security camera system it is important to consider a few different features to ensure that you are buying one that is right for you. Finding one that features a high resolution rate can be helpful when it comes to delivering clear imagery for easy playback and viewing. A security camera resolution rate is usually measured in TV lines. The standard resolution for a security camera is generally between 300 to 400 TV lines while a higher resolution rate may be seen anywhere between 400 to 600 TV lines. When purchasing, compare between the resolution rates to find one that will give you clearer images.
Another feature to consider is the lux illumination rating. The lux rating is the lumen per square meter and is measured by the intensity of light that passes or hits a surface of an object as it is perceived by the human eye. When this rating is zero or close to zero it means the camera can capture images in complete darkness. This tip is good to remember when purchasing a camera that doesn’t feature infrared properties.
The type of exterior is another aspect that can be taken into consideration especially when looking to use it in outdoor environments. When looking to expose the bullet camera to weather conditions, it is important to find one that consists of weatherproof properties. Weatherproof cameras are highly versatile when used in direct weather conditions, and can help to protect the inner parts to ensure a full lifetime of functionality within many applications.
Although these cameras are generally small, if looking to use one for covert and undercover monitoring, it may be beneficial to find one that features a smaller and compact size that can promote hidden recording properties without drawing attention to itself. The smaller the camera the less likely it will be noticed by passersby.
Overall a bullet security camera can prove useful in a range of applications where crime may be present. They also offer an alternative to discreet surveillance monitoring allowing for your assets to be protected and monitored all day every day for added safety and peace of mind for the camera user.
