These days security cameras are becoming more and more of a necessity because of the increase in crime that is throughout the world. With so many different security camera systems to choose from it can be difficult to ascertain which one it the better choice for your needs. When looking to use more than one camera, network security cameras may be beneficial to help maintain a level of security over a selected area at an affordable cost. But what are network security cameras?
Network security cameras are specially designed surveillance devices that are designed to easily provide connection to an existing computer network. A computer network is a group of 2 or more computer systems linked together, and when a network security camera is hooked up to this network it features it own unique IP address. IP addresses are similar to a social security number. It provides a unique identification number that identifies specific cameras connected so that the operator can choose one camera out of many.
With the use of web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer, network camera systems can now be viewed remotely online for high versatility and easy monitoring of the cameras system. To access a selected camera all an operator has to do is simply type in the IP address into the web browser, and if the system is protected a password may be required to gain access to the camera. Once an operator has gained control, the security camera can be viewed from any computer across the world due to the easy access to the internet.
When viewing security footage the frame rate of motion may depend on the internet connection speed as well as other important factors. For security viewing purposes it is recommended to use a high speed internet connection to ensure all monitoring and viewing of the camera system is fast and efficient. Network security cameras usually feature a frame per second frame rate of 30 and can deliver up to a resolution rate of 640 x 480 of live motion video. This helps to easily view multiple cameras on the one screen. With the advancements in technology, network security cameras can also be accessed through a cell phone or handheld PC as long as the device that is used in internet compatible and ready.
In today’s world there is a large variety of network security camera systems available to choose from to ensure that it suits the location it will be placed in. For outdoor use, there are models that feature exteriors that are weather resistant and weather proof. For high crime locations there are models that can cater with vandal resistant properties. Day/night network cameras are generally used for 24/7 surveillance due to being able to easily convert from color to black and white recording when day turns to night. These types of cameras are also classed as night-vision cameras.
Other forms of network security cameras are PTZ or pan, tilt, zoom security cameras. PTZ camera systems allows for pan and tilt movement of the camera to monitor selected locations. They also feature a high zoom capacity that allows for close up of images where suspicious activity may be present. PTZ network camera systems are generally control via a remote control. Wireless network camera systems are also available to choose from. Wireless security camera systems allow for the camera system to be used without the need for cables. These types can be useful where low profile recording and surveillance may be required, and allow for a neater setup process to provide a clearer and more aesthetically pleasing appearance. For wireless camera systems, an encryption can be used to prevent unwanted intruders from accessing your system illegally and changing settings.
A benefit of network cameras is that it makes it easier for a system to add and maintain larger security installations where numerous cameras are installed. With the help of some integrated management software, a user can expand their network camera system to accommodate of more cameras on the one system. This type of system can be useful for larger locations including schools, airports, large commercial businesses, and retail outlets. Another benefit of a network camera system is that it is more cost effective than most other types of surveillance cameras. When looking to install another camera there is no need to purchase extra recording equipment such as a digital video recorder. This can help to save an operator hundreds to thousands of dollars in both time and money when installing.
The best tips when choosing a security network camera is to assess where it will be placed to accommodate for the properties and features it may require. Another thing to look at is the resolution rate. The resolution rate is important as it determines the clearness of the images. The higher the resolution rate is the better the images will be allowing for easy identification of suspicious or criminal activity after a crime has been committed. If the camera is to be used in low light and dark environments it is crucial that it features day night properties or a low lux illumination rating.
Overall, network camera systems can provide a useful security solution especially with the deployment of a large range of cameras on the one system. These types of cameras can deliver exceptional imagery, and can help to maintain a level of security and safety for people, property, or possessions.
