In today’s world security and surveillance cameras are becoming more and more of an asset to help ensure your personal belongings and possessions stay safe and secure at all times. With the increase in crime in some areas, many people are turning to these devices to deter criminals and thieves to ensure that what it theirs, stays theirs. There are many types of security camera systems available, although a fixed box camera is one of the most sought out devices mainly because of their versatile design. But what is a fixed box camera?
Fixed box security cameras are one of the more common security devices that many people purchase when it comes to home or commercial property security and surveillance. These boxed cameras are also sometimes referred to as full sized cameras because of their shape and can sometimes be seen in industrial locations, commercial offices or businesses, and even in prisons. These security camera systems are generally customizable due to the lenses, power supplies, and mounts which are usually sold separately to provide high choices for the operator.
When it comes to lenses for a fixed box security camera system there are generally 2 types that can be chosen and these are C or CS mounts. The CS mount is a newer type of lens compared against the older C mount type but the style allows for high compatibility via an adapter and enables for smaller lenses to be used to help suit smaller and newer CCD chip sizes. CCD or charged coupled display is a special technology used in fixed cameras to convert light into electricity to help represent picture and image information. CCD chips are common in sizes of 1/3” and ¼”, although there have been larger sizes that offer a 2/3” or ½” chip. With the increase in demand of fixed box security systems there are now many different accessories that are available to help customize a system to suit certain locations or requirements. Some of these accessories include environmental housings, and varifocal lenses.
Environmental housings are special enclosures that are designed to be used when the cameras is used in changing climate conditions that may be wet, windy, or sunny. These types of housings usually feature a fan or blower that helps to regulate the temperature within the enclosure to reduce the risk of overheating, and also feature a heater that is designed to switch on when temperature levels drop below a certain degrees. This ensures the camera is able to still function in some of the coldest climates around the world.
Varifocal lenses are a special type of lens that is designed to promote multiple focal lengths to ensure that images up close and at a distance can still be seen and taken clearly. Varifocal lenses are not similar to zoom type lenses because they need to be manually adjusted when required to ensure the focus is clear. These lenses are becoming popular over the normal fixed lens due to the versatility of the images taken.
When looking to choose a fixed box home security system there are many different things that may need to be taken into consideration because of the many types of fixed security systems that can be purchased. First thing that needs to be assessed will be the location of where the camera system will be setup. These days weatherproof models are available for outdoor installations allowing for the camera to be placed in full exposure to the environment and climate changes. Weatherproof models can last a long time and are specifically designed to withstand most onslaughts of rain, hail, and wind.
Other models include vandal proof security systems. These types of security camera models are useful in locations that may experience high levels of vandalism. Vandal proof fixed security cameras are generally made to withstand onslaughts from different force strength and in some cases including sledgehammers and rock throwing. Some are also made to send an alarm to the operator in the event they become spray painted or the viewing window is blocked. This can be helpful in alerting attention to the area so quick and precise action can be taken.
Depending on the area and the lighting available, a high resolution, day/night, or low light model may need to be purchased to ensure clear quality images at any time of the day or night. Day and night cameras, also known as night vision cameras, generally record color by day and turn to black and white recording when it becomes dark. These can be highly versatile for 24/7 recording, and can usually handle long term applications and operations in demanding light conditions.
Purchasing one that has a high resolution rate can also be important to ensure clear images. A camera resolution rate is usually referred to as TV lines. Standards resolution can be seen between 300 to 400 TV lines while high resolution can be anywhere between 400 to 600 TV lines. The higher the resolution rate the clear the image will be when recording. This can provide useful when a crime has been committed for easy identification.
Overall, fixed boxed cameras can prove useful in a large range of different applications. They are one of the more common security camera systems available and with their highly customizable design you can easily purchase one to suit your particular needs and requires without any complications.
