Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is defined as the science and engineering of creating intelligent machines and computer programs. The main objective of artificial intelligence is to create systems (be they computer programs, user interface, or robots) that utilizes the decision-making skills and behavior of human intelligence. In essence, it tries to replicate intelligent behavior in non-living entities.

Research that has been gathered in the study of AI reveals much about perception, logic, and common sense. The computer is an important invention. It gathers and processes data much faster than humans. However, for all its efficiency, it has its limitation: thinking.

Artificial intelligence aims to get past this limitation. Through AI, researchers hope that machines (oven toasters, mobile phones, or computer) can one day mimic human intelligence. Take the example of an oven toaster. Right now, the best that a toaster can do would be to turn off the heat when it detects the toast burning. But by using artificial intelligence, it can prevent the toast from getting burned because of simple human intelligence.

Artificial intelligence has made a lot of progress. Right now, artificial intelligence is being applied in the following areas: game playing, speech recognition, understanding natural language, computer vision, experts system, and heuristic classification.
