Home Security Camera Systems - Why is a digital video recorder the right choice?

The latest advancements in computer technology have made digital video recording a reality. In just a few years, we have seen hard drive capacity greatly increase, processor speed more than doubled, and new devices for recording video digitally introduced to the market. As you might know, there are two important aspects that need to be considered when choosing a video recording device: recording frame rate and recording resolution. These are also the reasons why digital video recorders (DVR) are quickly becoming the right choice for home security camera systems.

DVRs boast a number of advantages over their older counterparts. Picture resolution, for example, can be obtained at a much higher rate using a DVR than using an analog recorder. This means that you will finally be able to reap all the benefits from your high resolution home security camera systems in a crystal clear video format. In fact, DVR recording resolution can equal and at times surpass a camera’s resolution, which means better playback quality.

Another notable advantage of DVR recording over conventional home security camera systems is its high frame rate. Most recorders currently on the market have a frame rate of at least 60 frames per second which is more than double what analog recorders have to offer, not to mention that DVRs with built in multi channel multiplexers can be found with recording frame rates of up to 480FPS. This increase is achieved by faster processors and increases the fluidity of video, avoiding the annoying time lapse that so many older home security camera systems have. And last but certainly not least, a DVR recorded picture maintains its premium quality playback after playback. Unfortunately, the same can not be said for analog recording quality which diminishes when played back over time.
