Area 51 is a military base that is located in the southern portion of Nevada, USA . It has a secretive large military airfield that is positioned at the center of Groom Lake. The primary purpose of the base is to support testing and development of weapon systems and experimental aircrafts. The base is placed within the vast Nevada Test and Training Range of the USA Air Force, and the buildings in the range are managed by the Nellis Air Force Base.
The Nellis Air Force Base is located in Nevada, Clark County. It is named after 1st Lieutenant William Harrell Nellis . The central base has an area of around 11,300 acres. There are 3 main functional areas in the base. The first area holds most of the mission support functions and an airfield, while the second one is the munitions area. The third base contains an open space as well as the Federal Hospital Mike O'Callaghan. All these areas are monitored with security video cameras.
Area 51 is known for its strict security. There are pairs of men patroling the border of the area, and they are called “cammo dudes” because they are usually dressed in camouflage. They drive around in 4-wheel-drive vehicles, making sure that no unauthorized people get near the base. The cammo dudes are sometimes supported by helicopters. There are also sensors placed around the border of Area 51, and these are used to detect movements. It is believed that the sensors can actually differentiate the movements of humans and animals. Those who are found trespassing will be fined, but the warning signs in the area state that deadly force can be used on trespassers too.
Because of the many reports of abnormal phenomena taking place in the classified research that is performed in Area 51, the area has become a focus of UFO and other conspiracy theories. It is suspected that a wide range of secret activities take place in the area, including the examination, storage, and reverse engineering of alien spacecraft, manufacture of aircraft based on alien technology, joint undertakings and meetings with extraterrestrials, development of energy weapons, development of teleportation and time travel technology, and others. There are some people who worked at the base, and they claimed to have witnessed some events that support the conspiracy theories that revolve around Area 51.
Area 51 has become an important part of pop culture because of the numerous conspiracy theories that are related to it. Many of the buildings in the area are used for the filming of movies and television shows, including the action movie Independence Day, the television series Seven Days, Tomb Raider 3 , Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull , Stargate SG-1, and others. The Nellis Air Force Base itself can be seen in Transformers, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, and the video game F-22 Raptor.
